The Pune Obstetric and Gynecological Society(POGS) is a professional body with Gynecologists as its members .The POGS has a mission to unite its members to strengthen the professional bonds amongst members to help enhance knowledge , research and the standards of the clinical practice to be able to serve the women better .POGS as an NGO also is dynamically involved in various social programs pertaining to women’s health and is keen on empowering women in the aspects of their health.

Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy
The practices for screening for hypothyroidism during pregnancy differ widely. Recently ‘National Guidelines for Screening of Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy’ are published by Ministry of health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
The estimated prevalence of hypothyroidism during pregnancy is 2-3%; overt up to 0.5% and subclinical around 2-2.5%. Prevalence of hypothyroidism in Indian population ranges between 4.8-12.5%.
Primary hypothyroidism is elevated TSH levels during pregnancy. It can be overt or subclinical. Iodine deficiency and autoimmune thyroid disease are the causative factors.
Untreated hypothyroidism during pregnancy is associated with adverse pregnancy outcome which includes:
- Increased incidence of miscarriages, recurrent pregnancy loss, preeclampsia, anaemia, GDM, placental abruption, PPH.
- Fetal growth restriction, fetal distress during labour, fetal death, preterm birth.

Greetings from the team!
This is my fourth communication to you as general secretary POGS I begin with great words by Winston Churchill

Month of June is over and the monsoon has just begun. Pray to lord Almighty to bless us and give us good rains.
June has had a lot of good programmes. The POGS DMH conference on Prevention of gynaecologic oncology was held on 13 and 14 June at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. There were about 150 registrations. On Saturday there was workshop on LEEP on models. All participants were seen to be enjoying themselves as they got opportunity to learn from very good master trainers and hands on practice of LEEP on dummy cervices.
There was a very rich exposition of knowledge by experts on cervical cancer screening and management of CIN. Chief Guest for the function was DR Vijay Zutshi president ISCCP Delhi and guest of honour was Dr. Neerja Bhatla from AIIMS Delhi.
